REAL-Resources for the Enrichment of African Lives
African Girls & Young Women Leadership Development Program

The African Girls & Young Women Leadership Development Program intends to help develop the leadership skills of African girls and young women to have them make a difference in the lives of African people living in the United States and their native countries, starting with people from and in Ethiopia.

We are looking for African girls & young women to participate in this leadership development. In particular, we are seeking girls/young women who are:
Committed and passionate to make a difference in the lives of girls and young women in African.
Accepting of persons different than themselves and respectful of persons of different cultures and faiths.
Successful in “bridging the cultural gap” and gaining acceptance and understanding of others by explaining cultural norms to those who are unfamiliar with them.
Able to have an effective network within an ethnic or cultural community
Willing to work cooperatively with the different ethnic groups or diverse groups
Girls & young women interested to participate in this leadership program must fill out an application, and be interviewed by representatives of the partnering agencies. The REAL African Girls & Young Women Leadership Development Program Committee will make the final selection of who will participate in the program.

The deadline for applying is April 30, 2009. Introduction to REAL

One hundred and twenty-five people gathered to celebrate the work of REAL and to raise funds for the "Keep the Girls in School" program.

Nearly $3500 was raised, enough to sponsor one girl for five years and a teacher.
 
October 22, 2005International Leadership Institute
REAL president Tsehai Wodajo conducted a workshop entitled, "Navigating Cultures for self-Identity" at Annual International Leadership Institute Youth Leadership Conference. High school and college level youth participated.
