Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd to Support Girls Money Pledged in Momentum for Mission Campaign
MINNEAPOLIS: Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, the Rev. Jonathan Buuck pastor, has pledged $10,000 to REAL through a Momentum for Mission campaign. The amount will support 4 girls for seven years. REAL makes a commitment of support to the girls for seven years or through the 12th grade.
In addition the Altar Guild of Good Shepherd has pledged support for an additional girl for seven years. Other individuals in the congregation have stepped forward with support for another ten girls. As of August members of the congregation will be supporting the entire cluster of 15 girls at Burayu Katta when school begins in October.
After the congregation had completed three successful capital campaigns the members voted to undertake a Momentum for Mission campaign. Nearly $600,000 was pledged over a three year period. In addition to the girls in the Burayu Katta cluster there will be assistance for an AIDS orphange in Western Ethiopia and some partnerships with the Oromo Lutheran congregation in Minneapolis.
Following the Momentum for Mission campaign Good Shepherd member, Pam Matchie Tiede volunteered to serve on the REAL board. She has accepted the chair of the resource development committee.
Eight members of the congregation will be traveling to Ethiopia in October. The mission trip will include a visit to the girls at Burayu Katta as well as the other clusters.
