REAL makes a seven year commitment to support girls in clusters of 15 to continue their education through grade 12. Economic need and academic performance are the primary selection criteria. Each year every girl must demonstrate good academic achievement (reports are received from the schools) in order to continue in the program.
Sponsor a girl for $30 per month or $360 per year.
REAL commits $360 a year in support of each girl and her family. Of that support:
- an amount is designated for tuition, clothing, books, and school supplies;
- an amount is designated for food for the girl and her family;
- an amount is provided to assist the family in generating income, such as the purchase of a sewing machine and material, an additional goat for the flock, seeds for planting, etc. Such stipends provide an incentive for the family to allow their daughter to remain in school and also strengthen the family and community economically.
Sponsors may be put in touch with the girl they are sponsoring. Through letters and photos sponsors are able to get to know the girl and the conditions of her family, and she will get to know them.
Sponsor a mentor for a cluster for $100 per month or $1200 per year.
The mentors work with the girls on a daily basis, ensuring that they keep up with their school work. The mentor works with the family of each girl to help the family provide an atmosphere that encourages the girl to continue her education. To help the girls broaden their horizons the mentors provide extra-curricular resources and classes. Your assistance in supporting a mentor enables the girls to compete and excel in their education.
